Eurosite Annual Meeting in Amiens

Eurosite Annual Meeting in Amiens

The INF ARMY team participated in the annual Eurosite meeting held from November 7-9, 2023, in Amiens, France. The event included workshops focused on military areas, aiming to facilitate the exchange of experiences among managers of military areas in the field of nature conservation. This encompassed Natura 2000 areas and other protected zones, promoting the exchange of knowledge on best practices, monitoring tools, cooperation with civilian authorities, and other activities for the protection and restoration of natural habitats and education.

Close to 120 participants from across Europe attended the event to strengthen collaboration and coordinate efforts for the environment.

During the meeting, presentations were given, including:

- One by the team implementing the LIFE NaturArmy project of the French Ministry of Armed Forces, aimed at improving the conservation status of species and habitats justifying the Natura 2000 classification in military areas.

- Another about the "Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI)" program conducted by the United States Department of Defense. This ambitious program funds actions to address biodiversity issues in military areas and their vicinity.

The INF ARMY LIFE project was also presented to the participants. As a result of the meeting, there was a proposal to establish an international working group of managers of military areas dealing with nature conservation broadly.
