Nature Workshop - Błędowska Desert

Nature Workshop - Błędowska Desert

The final nature workshop under task T.2.3 took place at the Błędowska Desert Training Ground on October 23, 2023. The Project Manager welcomed the participants, presenting the main goals and tasks of INF ARMY.

As usual, the Błędowska Desert, designated as the Natura 2000 area PLH120014, revealed its beauty. Workshop participants had the opportunity to admire inland dunes with sandy grasslands (2330) and warm inland sandy grasslands (6120), representing two types of protected natural habitats. The boundaries between habitat areas and deflation fields in the desert have a fluid character and change relatively quickly depending on the degree of succession or anthropogenic pressure.

It is worth emphasizing that the desert area is an excellent example of the complete convergence of nature conservation goals and the needs arising from the military use of this area. The deforestation of dunes and grasslands (under the LIFE project LIFE12NAT/PL/000031, titled 'Comprehensive protection of non-forest natural habitats in military areas in the Natura 2000 area,' implemented in the years 2013-2017) improved both the state of protected natural habitats and facilitated the organization of military exercises (e.g., parachute jumps).
