Nature Workshop - Bory Dolnośląskie

On September 14, 2023, a nature workshop took place in the Natura 2000 Special Protection Area PLB020005 Bory Dolnośląskie, in which 43 participants took part. This area is the largest national habitat for two owl species: the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus) and the Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum). Furthermore, until recently, there was a strong population of black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) across the extensive areas of the local military training grounds. Despite a significant decline in numbers in recent years, the area remains crucial for the protection of this species and is its only significant refuge in the lowland western part of Poland.

However, it was not these elusive and hard-to-observe birds that became the main attraction of the workshops in Świętoszów. Instead, it was the praying mantises, whose presence even surprised the area's regular users. This illustrates the primary goal of these field workshops - to raise awareness among people about the ecological value of the area they work in. Furthermore, it underscores that the Natura 2000 area aims to protect species and habitats but does not exclude human activities.

Workshop No. 6 concluded as a great success.
