Nature Workshop - Ostoja Góry Słonne

On May 16, 2023, the first nature workshop took place within the Natura 2000 site PLH180013 Ostoja Góry Słonne, marking the beginning of a series of 10 field meetings under the theme "Supporting and Managing Natura 2000 Areas on Military Grounds" as part of task T.2.1 of the project 101074108 - LIFE21-GIE-PL-INF-ARMY.

The main objective of the workshop was to familiarize participants with the natural value and the issues concerning nature conservation and the environment within the military grounds of Ostoja Góry Słonne.

The field presentation was given by a long-time forester from the Łodzianka Forest District.

Workshop participants had the opportunity to learn about the cooperation between foresters and the military, the local forest management policy, the impact of human activities on the local biodiversity of flora and fauna, as well as the methods of combating the main issue of invasive species expansion, such as the Sosnowsky's hogweed (Heracleum sosnowskyi).

The workshop program also included a lecture on the local nature and the related management and conservation issues, conducted by a staff member from the Forest Education Center in the Bircza municipality.

During the visit to the Center, the Project Manager officially welcomed the participants and presented the 101074108 INF ARMY project.

The nature workshop served not only as a source of new knowledge but also as an inspiration to take action for environmental conservation. We learned how crucial it is to maintain balance in nature and how our daily decisions can impact our surroundings.
